While a talented broadcaster in his own right, Roy Finden's greatest contributions to the industry have been as a teacher.

A Minneapolis native, he attended Brown Institute (now Brown College) after a high school teacher suggested a career in radio. After graduating in 1959, he became a staff announcer at WSPT Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and soon moved on to a disc jockey position at KRIB Mason City, Iowa. He returned to Minnesota in 1960 as program director at KDHL Faribault, where he remained for six years, until going back to Brown in 1966 as a member of the broadcast department faculty. In 1970, while still teaching, he began a career in television at KSTP TV Minneapolis/Saint Paul. In his ten years at KSTP he served as weathercaster and also hosted other programs such as "High School Bowl." He later did early morning weather reports at KARE TV Minneapolis/Saint Paul. He trained thousands of young broadcasters during his 35 years at Brown and was loved and respected by colleagues and students alike. He retired in 2001, but left a rich legacy: the many students who have gone on to successful radio and television careers of their own.
